TUMIS develops effective communication strategies for the success of our communities. We are the only bilingual design studio dedicated to global social justice that is woman-owned and run by people of color. Our team consists of designers, techies, artists, activists and youth advocates.
Every member of the TUMIS team considers this company an integral part of the community. We purposefully made the decision to establish our design firm in East Oakland because we believe in investing and participating in the political landscape of our community. Nationally our firm is a flagship in innovative design, and has participated in hundreds of progressive projects challenging racism, classism, homophobia, sexism, and corporate irresponsibility. We have become a pivotal advisor and service provider for many organizations and campaigns that are looking to achieve lasting social impact.
TUMIS invest its profit into the East Oakland community, our home and our primary place of business. We are active members of the EastSide Arts Alliance, a third world artist collective that recently purchased a building to house its community cultural center.
TUMIS is also one of the fastest growing design firms in San Francisco Bay Area. Since our inception in 2002 we have achieved an annual growth of 25%. Our number of clients, most of them referral based, has grown ten fold since our inception. Our expansion is a testament to a successful and ethical business vision and model.
TUMIS also has a strong commitment to youth. We train and hire youth from our community to join our workforce, and participate in outreach strategies designed specifically to encourage youth of color to pursue careers in media and communications.
In 2004 TUMIS co-sponsored Designs on Democracy, a conference on design and communications. This gathering brought together over 300 organizers and designers to discuss communications in the context of social justice.
